It would be swell if the city would do something pro-tourist instead of the usual gouging.
San Antonio seems to be "pro-tourist". Sorry, seems like you don't want to pay your way... Load on on the local taxpayers? You "don't like to tip"...

You have your opinion. I have mine. I've had some very rude experiences with SA Transpo services in the past because I was a Local, not a tourist. What experiences have you had? Have you ever visited San Antonio?

While I was in the process of moving, I flew back to San Antonio and rented an SUV from the Enterprise at the airport. Because I still had a San Antonio drivers license I got a special 'local rate' of $14 a day plus tax. If you are local to San Antonio have you actually checked with the rental car companies?

I'm not doubting your personal experience, but for another data point, I've lived here for 13 years, have taken a taxi from the airport far more times than I can count, always to downtown, and have never had any problems. I've also rented cars (almost *all* airports in the world charge an airport fee for rentals and a fee for taxis) many times, with no problems.

So I' sorry you've had a bad personal experience. And you can surely fraud the hotel companies if you choose, doesn't make it *right.*

FWIW, the airport vehicle rental fee funds the rental car facilities at the airport. This way, no taxpayer dollars are used. The Aviation Department is in the process of using those fees to improve the rental area.

Somebody has to pay for this stuff. I kinda like that it's being funded by the folks who use it.

So the airport's charging a fee, but the money's not being used to put new carpet in the mayor's office or to pay the air conditioning bill at the Alamodome. It's being put right back into the rental area at the airport.

I really liked your idea and most likely would have used it if my sister had not picked me up at the Airport.
