Does anyone know of a Home for Girls that was in San Antonio in the 1940's. It was a home for troubled girls and may have been run by nuns.

Wouldn't it be best to check with the church/nuns in this city ?
If you have a valid reason for wanting to know, they might
provide you with assistance.

I remember when I had to go there to do a report. One of the
policies was; no information of location whether current or past
be made available to the public.

Good Luck to you.

The home was indeed run by nuns. However I forgot the name of the place. Think it was on Montana Street. The order that ran it was the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of Refuge. They are a french order founded in the 1640s by St.John Eudes a priest to help destitute women and troubled girls to provide training and education so that they would hopefully be able to earn a living without turning to stealing;prostitution;etc.
St.mary Euprashia Pellitier founded the Sisters of Our Lady of the Good Shepherd also in France in the 19thcentury for the same work. I believe she was a Sister of Refuge who founded a revived branch.
Both communities are still in the US. I think the Sisters of Refuge still have a convent here. However the Archdiocese of San Antonio Vocations website isn't much help.
If you had a relative there ;best bet would be to write a letter to the Archdiocese and explain your interest and what you are looking for. They may or maynot help.Good luck.
