Hey everyone, I'm gonna be moving to SA in about a month and have been looking for places downtown/southtown area. I'm coming via two big cities (Miami, NY) and so it's important for me to live in an area where there are things going on and in walking distance. I'm not going to have a chance to come down to SA until I move so that makes things a bit difficult. I'd really like to keep my rent at $1000 which looks to be a bit difficult, does anyone have any advice?

Also, does anyone have any comments on Milmo Lofts? The units look nice but I really don't know anything in the area. It looks a little bit out of the way. Is it safe? Any comments on the units/building itself?

As far as southtown goes, I've tried looking for a place on craigslist and it all just looks like realtor spam. Do I need to drive around the area looking for rent signs to find a place? Thanks in advance!

The bigger/newer complexes will have websites with rental info. $1000 is doable in some of them.

But yes, driving around looking at for rent signs will get you the smaller/independent places that are sometimes cheaper. You can contact a local realtor that specializes in Southtown, some will help with rentals.

You might also consider the Pearl area.

Craigslist can be hit or miss. There can be times where it it is really good and others, like you said, can just be spam. Keep trying with it. It depends on the time of the month for a lot of people (end/start of the month busier). Also check realtor.com. And yes, driving around will get you some good ones too. I think the Mosaic has studios below $1000 as does Braodway 1221. Those are in the Pearl area, a walk under 35 to the Pearl.
