San Antonio joins fast-food wage protests

“I'm out here standing in front of my store because I deserve respect,” said Kimberly Marshall, a 22-year-old who worked at the McDonald's that was the site of the morning rush-hour protest.
“I don't live with my mother, I live with my husband, in my apartment — $625 rent,” she said through a megaphone as about 20 supporters cheered her on. “How's that gonna to pay that? I go to school full time. How am I going to make it? How am I going to pay for my books next semester?”

San Antonio joins fast-food wage protests - San Antonio Express-News

Based on pother news stories (I believe it was Kens) they said that about 20 people showed up and only half of them were fast food employees. The rest were from the Texas Organizing Project (TOP) and The Service Employer Union (SEIU).

My main gripe with what I quoted was $625 for an apartment? I have a Masters degree and pat $519. Maybe you need to get your priorities in check.

Anywayyyy. Opinions?

Two working adults should be able to afford $625. I pay $650 for a two-bedroom. There are plenty of one-bedrooms under $600 that are in safe areas.

No one deserves respect. It's earned.

If you saw the sign one of the guys was holding you could tell why they work at a fast food chain and why they will not be leaving anytime soon.

Get used to ordering from a self-serve kiosk. Well, not you or you, because of course you don't eat there anyway. LOL

They really just don't think things through very well at all. That may explain their employment situation.

Let's say they get their raise. The food prices go up and because of that people stop going to restaurants.

Now what?

By the way, my nephew make $12 an hour unloading boxcars. That's a hard job compared to preparing food and they're complaining?

The thing of it is, sales are down at all fast-food restaurants. McDonald's has reported a significant loss in its first quarter of 2014. Sales are waning due to healthier options in other venues and a lack of trust in the fast-food industry in general.

Now these people demanding $15 an hour are in a position to be part of their own unemployment, if they're successful.
