Hi everyone.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me where exactly Big John Hamilton's Steakhouse was located? Is it still in operation or has it gone by the wayside?

Thank you Deep Forest. I've been past that bowling alley many times. I once owned a house at Lyman and Harry Wurzbach. My ex still lives there ;-). Determined to own something in that area again some day. Was it at the location of the bowling alley or across the street?

Didn't read the article far enough. Another location mentioned was this:

Yeah Big Johns was next door to the Astro Bowl building to the north. At one time I was one of the better bowlers in SA. I carried a 210+ average for quite a while. Duke LaDuke owned Astro Bowl and I was there often bowling for bucks. We'd go next door to Big Johns and have a few afterwards with a plate of "Scraps". You had to know somebody there to order Scraps. Scraps was the tenderloin cut from the T-Bone steaks and you could cut them with a fork and oh so yummy!

My vintage directories list Big John's address as 3239 Harry Wurzbach, which would put it just to the north of Astro Bowl. Astro Bowl was expanded to the north about 30 years ago, IIRC, so it probably swallowed the footprint of the old restaurant.

Much older directories (1950s) listed Big John's address as simply "Austin Highway", but no number. Maybe they moved at some point?
