The Raiders aren't moving here. They're just using us as a bargaining tool to get a new stadium in the Bay area. San Francisco seems to be frothing at the mouth to do it. I say let them.

While the idea of having a NFL team here in San Antonio is appealing. I for one do not want to pay for the stadium and that folks is what is going to be asked of us. Davis said he is might be willing to play in the Alamodome until and new stadium is built. New stadium = new taxes.

I don't think anyone wants to pay. Reality is usually different. Seat licenses is another idea...but then people complain about those too. At least everyone is not forced to pay in that case.

Although it's interesting, those who are hoping to get the Raiders in San Antonio shouldn't get their hopes up.

Mark Davis is really threatening the city of Oakland to build a new stadium... just like his daddy did. It's the oldest tool in the box that pro sports team owners use to build a new facility. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.

I will say, however, that if it DOES happen, you really wouldn't have to build a new stadium, rather re-build the Alamodome to current NFL standards. What you would need:

- Wider, more modern concourse. Maybe even have an open concourse as you see with plenty of new stadiums here. That would split the 2nd level and make it a more intimate venue.
- More luxury and press boxes. May have to add a stack on top of the current set of boxes.
- Raise (basically build a new) 3rd Tier. Which would mean...
- Take off the roof and design a new one. I understand the city needs the Alamodome for several reasons, requiring a roof. For about a year or 2, it would be without a roof, or the roof could be constructed during the season.

TCU rebuilt about 90% of their stadium and it costs $165 million. For the Alamodome, I'd say It would be a max of 4 times that, bringing the total up to around $600 million. That's a lot, but believe it or not, it's still less than the "cheapest" of the newer NFL stadiums (Lucas Oil Field, $720) so there's an option. Building a brand new stadium all together, I guarantee it would reach up to the billions for a place like San Antonio.

IOW, it means nothing.
Agreed. While the idea of an NFL team here is interesting, I am not going to get excited about it yet.

San Antonio seems to be the city that other major sports teams, whether they be NFL or MLB, threaten to go to in order to get their current host city to pay up for a new stadium.

Remember when everyone was buzzing about the Saints moving to San Antonio?

They should be named the San Antonio Light Railers - after other projects that won't ever be seen.

IF they do get an NFL team, I just hope they either renovate the Alamodome or demolish it and rebuild on that site. Just don't build it in the suburbs or in some random location like the AT&T center.

It would be renovated temporarily while a new venue is built

None of these are bad things. I say spend the money now on upgrading the dome so it's ready for the Raiders in 2016. No need to build a new stadium. You can't find a better location anyhow.
