It looks like they finally approved the redesign for the construction at 151 and 1604. Work is expected to begin as early as Spring and will last 18 to 24 months and will consist of an over pass connecting 151 to Alamo Ranch Parkway, and a taller overpass connecting 1604 southbound to 151 eastbound. There's a small amount of info on mysa, but you can find a larger article in today's paper.

I don't know why it bothers me but I'd much rather see an "underpass" in that area. I guess because it matches the rest of 151 as it flow towards 1604.

Honestly, it may cost more, but I think the overpasses are going to do more to ease congestion than the old design. In the old design, southbound 1604 traffic would have had to exit 1604, hit a multi-directional stoplight at the intersection of 1604 and 151, take turns with the traffic coming through from Alamo Ranch Parkway and off of 151 into Alamo Ranch, and then turn left under 1604 to get on 151. I think we would still be seeing similar congestion to what we have now. The new design seems much more efficient because it puts southbound 1604 traffic and AR Parkway traffic right onto 151 without stopping at that intersection. That sounds much better to me.

Joke of an intersection.

A joke is a understatement. I don't think I have ever seen a more poorly designed mess of a intersection before. Seriously, who comes up and approves these ideas?

I wonder how long it will take to get funding for the project.

Ive been asking that of pretty much every stretch of highway in San Antonio since I moved here 27 years ago.

IT kills me that some idiot comes up with the idea and another committee of idiots goes "oh yeah yeah perfect this is excellent Bob!"
