Lowes and Home Depot are selling $9 bundles, I'm looking in the $3-$4 range. Have not seen it in Walmart or HEB.

HEB (Alon Market) has it now for $5. I'm sure the other HEBs will follow soon, if they haven't already!

Call the HOW foundation. I haven't been out in a few years, but the price can be negotiable once you are out in the yard. I once picked up an entire bed filled with mesquite and pecan for $20. They make an effort to separate the woods by type.

I stopped going because they had gotten a new director who was directing all the mesquite to his ranch. If you're just looking for firewood, then it will be your best bet. Watch out for oak wilt.

Sometimes I see pick-up on Austin Hwy selling mesquite wood for $3.50 a bundle.
Also plenty of offers on Craigslist:
san antonio for sale / wanted "firewood" - craigslist
often free:
san antonio free stuff - craigslist

I like the wood at Valero stations better than the wood at HEB. It burns better and comes in a bigger bundle. 2 bundles for $9.

Great suggestions folks, thànks. I've been buying it from the lackland commissary, assorted hardwood, tough to split. Convenient as I shop there a couple times a week.
