The reason behind them blocking the use of Apple Pay and others is of course $$. Retailers are coming up with their own type of app but this app will not use major credit cards. It will focus on a connection to your checking account, store credit cards, gift cards, etc. This is out for me. I use my major credit card to purchase everything. Nothing is linked to my checking account, I don't do store credit cards and the only time I have a gift card is if someone gave it to me.

Guess I will just continue using my plastic at the checkout line versus my phone. Who knew using your actual credit card would become Old School.

What is the point of Apple Pay or Google wallet if some stores do not have the technology?

You are still going to have to carry around you wallet.

What is the point of credit / debit cards if some locations don't accept them? You're still going to have to carry cash!

1:1 logic here. This is a transitional period, all technologies experience it.

I didn't think of it that way....but you make total sense. The retailers don't really care what form of payment you use as long it is a form of payment they accept. Cash is king though...pretty much everyone accepts cash except for very few places.

It blows my mind some places still don't accept credit / debit. I truly believe these places are in most cases hurting their own business by refusing to accept it.

I never have cash on me. I will pull out cash for things like events or cons for the dealer room or something, but other than that... there's no cash in this wallet!

Retailers DO care how you pay because fees form the major credit card companies add up. That is why a lot of places will not take American Express or Discover. The system CVS is developing bypasses the CC companies all together.

What?

Cash and debit/credit cards are all your SAME wallet. The point of Apple pay and Google wallet is to not have to carry the wallet is it not?

Then your statement was nonsensical. Yes you're going to have to carry your wallet... Apple Pay and Google Wallet are just forms of payment. You'll still need your wallet for other things.

Retailers are not using apple pay because they can't collect data on the customer. It has little to do with fees if anything at all despite the claim that fees is the main reason.

I use AMEX pretty much everywhere. I can think of only two times in the past 3 years where I couldn't use AMEX and one of those times is my dentist's office.

Bill Millers

A lot of bars

A lot of single location mom and pops will not take it and yes it is because of the fees.
