Not everyone eats feral hogs, even then you are talking about hundreds of feral hogs.

Paka ( a former regular poster here) had a feral hog problem in her Del Webb community near Culebra and 1604. Her husband ( or one of the neighborhood men) shot at least one of them and they threw it on the pit. She said it was some good eatin'. I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. I would be horrified. Like someone else said, that's a huge monetary loss just in sod. There's a neighborhood in Fort Worth that was on the news last night with the same problem. I was going to post a link to the news story but they didn't offer any solutions other than to trap them.

Best of luck with this.

Being a city girl...would they hurt a child? That's a terrifying thought.

They are usually very afraid of humans but if you get one cornered or if a sow with young pigs feels threatened they can be really mean and dangerous.

That's horrible. So you can understand my concern. Please keep me posted regarding the problem/solution in your neighborhood.

I would get them processed and keep the meat in my garage freezer. There are even people who will teach you how to field dress and process them yourself.

By the way kayanne, ignore the post on page 1 about "city people moving to the country and complaining about wildlife". Feral hogs have become more of a problem in recent years, but it wasn't always this bad.

Some people are even blowing them up, they've gotten so bad. Maybe they'll invade inside the loop or just outside the loop one day, and we'll see some more concern.

I wish I could find some .22. Even the common .22 LR has been gone for a couple years now.

Default I wouldn't if I was you,

A thread on the extermination of Feral hogs and talk of a 22 cal slug? I wouldn't - Shoot one of those wild pigs with a 22 cal. rifle. You will just merely tick the thing off.
