Wow.
Yeah i'm not surprised at some of those. SW Military seems to be the worst non-hwy. street.
Yet we still see people texting and yacking on the phone. Every day.
Some fools never learn.

Having your phone in your hand while driving is something that everyone does to some degree (like speeding).

if the cops arent doing enough to fine these drivers, maybe we should do our part as citizens; by taking photos of the driving texting while driving

I can't recall if Converse is one of the suburbs that has the ordinance, but yesterday a police officer and I were both at a four way stop. We made eye contact while I had my phone up using the GPS to get somewhere. He didn't do a thing and drove off to where he needed to be (which was down the street, but nonetheless).

Just make sure you ask your passenger to do the photo taking so you are not breaking the law as the driver!

Or the inclination to follow, either. On my way to work yesterday, I saw an SAPD officer having what appeared to be a merry, animated conversation on his handheld cell phone as he made a left turn onto the road I was driving on. I wonder if the DA will prosecute the first LEO who runs into another vehicle or pedestrian while doing that?

Bo, as I recall, LEO's are specifically excluded from the law.

For official police business yes, but I think not for personal business.

So it seems like two different scenarios could happen:

1: While talking on the phone on official police business, officer is distracted and kills a pedestrian while turning left. Officer is not in trouble.

2: While talking on the phone on personal business, officer is distracted and kills a pedestrian while turning left. Officer is in trouble.

Is that right?

It's not a dumb law

Accidents caused by distracted drivers on cellphones is bad everywhere
and it's driving the costs of insurance UP

The more accident claims the higher the costs.....I am not sure who would be
against lowering your insurance bill

Yes I see lots of people still driving while on their cellphones there just isn't enough
cops to enforce this law that is the problem here.
