Great find, Insomniac. That's turning lemons into lemonade.

How safe is the economy parking at SAT? In terms of break-ins, door dings, negligence? Are there end parking spots available, that prevent people from parking next to you?

I landed at terminal 2 for my relocation trip here... my first thought was "huh?" I mostly fly Continental and can't say I'll miss the place. It's small, not a lot to do while I wait, and smells funny. A lot like some of the older terminals in Vegas, it was probably a lot nicer way back when before it was remodeled for the 4th time and with 3x as many coats of paint.

About Port San Antonio or whatever it's called - I really don't think they'd be able to move the airport there. The Air Force really does fly a lot in the area... lots of training flights and touch and goes and those C-5s leave a pretty big wake behind them. And there'll be more air traffic there before long because two of the companies that operate out of that field are building up and growing.

If you're waiting for an inbound flight in T2, there's an out-of-the-way observation area on the second floor. You can look out onto the runways and the roof of the terminal from inside big glass windows. It's up one flight of stairs across from the USO area.

A kind-hearted airport employee tipped me off to that hidden gem a few years back when I was waiting with kids in the tiny area outside security.
