Ad how about marine life, are there sandollars, stars, conchs, etc?
I have found hermit crabs, deceased sand dollars, and lots of tiny shells like the ones below.

Also, there is a dolphin cruise in Port A.

While a proud Texan are beaches leave a lot to be desired. That being said as mentioned by others, Port A is by far the best option.

Like the others, I agree with Port Aransas.

Nicest beach on the the Gulf Coast is South Padre, spent last Labor Day there and it was great and surprisingly not as crowded nor expensive as on the same weekend which we had spent Port A previously, but I'm pretty sure it is also the furthest (~5.5 hours).

As stated before, the closest AND nicest beach is Port A unless there is some hidden secret which no one is sharing. Jellyfish can be bad during the peak of Summer but are mostly of the non/light-stinging variety (and each individual's sensitivity). The seaweed seems to always be present (we've gone to Port A throughout the year - even in Jan). They do keep the seaweed cleaned up on the beach during the tourist season but nothing can be done about the seaweed in the water. The town is nice, more akin to a small New England beach town than Nags Head.
