I relocated from Frederick, MD to San Antonio, TX and have friends living in FL. IMO - Pros/Cons to consider:

1.) Baltimore: Fun city with a lot to do; you may not need to drive a lot depending on where you live; awful traffic; higher cost of living, housing, state & county/city income taxes; winters can be nasty at times; summer humidity is stifling. Typically distinct winter/spring/summer/fall seasons, which a lot of people like to experience.

2.) San Antonio: Fun city with a lot to do; definitely need a car as the area has a wider spread than most cities; traffic is not as bad as many cities, although it's been increasing with the population growth; no state income tax; higher real estate tax; typically good weather year round & San Antonio does not seem to be affected as much by natural disasters (hurricanes, earthquakes, blizzards, etc.); you may not find the heat/humidity bad depending on where you are from (IMO, the humidity on the Mid-East coast was stifling & much worse than here).

3.) Tampa: Fun city with a lot to do; weather: lots of rain & stifling humidity during the summer months, tornado/hurricane season; very high property/flood insurance; no state income tax; higher real estate tax; cost of living is basically the same as San Antonio.

Tough decision - I chose to move to San Antonio for the warmer year-round weather & lower cost of living; Maryland income taxes & housing costs were insane; the dogs wanted a house with an actual yard. There are good schools in all locations if you carefully research the neighborhood you chose to live in. Crime exists everywhere - some types of crime are more prevalent in some areas. I've noticed the news in San Antonio tends to focus more local events, news & crime; whereas in DC & the surrounding areas the news tends to be more world focused, less on local crime (altho' it does exist), & too much on politics (IMO, it seemed more negative).

Good Luck and I hope whatever you choice you make; you enjoy your new location.

Baltimore might need an update given that
baseball games can be closed to the fans, among other things - many other things
