A lifehacker article today pointed to a news article and claims that TWC has cancelled their tiered pricing plan for Rochester based on overwhelming negative feedback:

Lifehacker - Which Is Worse: Bandwidth Caps or Throttling? - Bandwidth
Edit: another story - http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20090416-714029.html (broken link)

This means they can be backed down by enough customer complaining and political support, at least for the time being.

TWC already did back down here and in Austin, pushing the rollout back until 2010.

Good! Metered usage benefits only TWC - not the consumer, especially those who depend on internet access for business or education.

Temporary victory. They think the public is wrong and want to "educate" us on how they turn wanting profits into the customer's fault. There is no misunderstanding like TW thinks. The internet is what it is because of the lack of caps, and almost everyone knows that TW's lines are really lines owned and paid for by the taxpayers, including new improved lines to be built in the future.

TW invests NOTHING in new lines, nor does usage hurt their profits. Their stocks are down due to the recession forcing people to cut back on luxuries or looking for cheaper alternates, and they want a new business model to try to raise profits to get their stocks back up.

Plus, in the mean time, TW will no doubt engage in more talks with rivals to get more illegal cartel agreements, so when they try again, they'll do like when airlines raise prices, and do it all at once as a unified front.

Not if congress acts first, it's one thing to **** of consumers...but when those consumers start calling there representatives that's when the hammer falls....representatives understand that some people can barely afford high speed internet and that not having enough bandwidth stifles innovation on the internet.....fine TW wants to engage in talks doesn't matter there is companies like FIOS that likes this sort of stupidity because that's when they move in and take over stupid companies like TW let them.

The RIAA almost word-for-word wrote the US DMCA laws. It will be a tough fight for the politicians to resist the pressure (and money) of the lobbyists to get a law like that passed.
