Went to renew my lease and my rent went up $250 per month

Now it time to look elsewhere I'm moving, San Antonio jobs don't even pay that well!

your lucky to make $13 an hour here..Lot's of discrimination also..

my 2 bedroom went from $850 to $1100

Have you tried talking to the leasing office? A $250 increase sounds pretty unreasonable. We're going to rent for a year in San Antonio, though, and I agree, rents have gone way up. I didn't see a lot of specials, either, like there used to be. Supply/Demand on display.

That's a 29% increase, which is ridiculous. Rents are up 4%-7% over last year depending where you are and the type of rental unit. My guess is that you had some rent concessions amortized into your rental rate and that has now gone away plus a bit of an increase. If not, you should look elsewhere since that is way out of line with the overall market.

Okay. New owners wanted to raise the rent at your place. What does that have to do with the rest of San Antonio? Rent has been going up all over the city, but not by that much.

There are quite a few older complexes that are getting flipped by property companies. I live in one that was probably around $550 at one point and renovated I pay $665. Yes, it's an increase, but worth the renovations. I would never have considered it without the changes. While change may hurt some it's business.

Complexes get flipped regularly. I was actually surprised how many times you see/hear about new management and see name changes.

Didn't see if you stated where you lived but in AHISD, houses rent for $1 per square foot and up, as high as $2. So a 1400 sq, 2 bed 1 bath would run $1400 and up in that area.

When I first moved to SA in Dec 1999 I rented a 2/2, 1037 square feet in North Central not too far inside 1604 for $662.50.
It was a really nice apartment, the complex had been built in 1986 so only 13 years old.

Complexes in North Central are way more decrepit now through years of neglect and shoddy maintenance. They are demanding 900, 1000, 1100 for these catastrophes. I see them all along Blanco with new coats of paint and new names.

Interesting how anyone can actually afford to live in these slums. Any nice apartments are now outside 1604 and will start around 1200. Unconscionable, honestly. What job in SA pays that well for the average working family? These prices are WAY higher than my mortgage in Canada and that's saying a lot. Canada is very expensive. I don't know where slumlords get off charging these prices. The market my backside. The "market" is simply a very greedy owner.
