Hello!

We are a large family that will be retiring from the military and moving to the San Antonio area in Sep 16. We have 6 kids ranging in age from 16 to 1. I will be working hopefully in IT security as a contractor or civil service on one of the bases. My wife is a Nurse. We have been focusing on the New Braunfels/Cibolo area. Ideally we would like to rent initially to get a feel for the area and then buy, maxing out at $330k 4-5 bdrm 2600sqft +. We enjoys nice, newer, and clean neighborhoods with great amenities, and hopefully a Costco nearby. We would love to hear any and all recommendations on great places to live. Commutes of no greater than 45 minutes are fine. Thank you!

Most of the government IT security work is centered around Lackland AFB and the NSA facilities on the NW side. 45 minutes is going to be a no traffic great day commute to those areas from New Braunfels.

There are some contractors with closer facilities.

I'd look out of Bexar County. Lower taxes in surrounding counties and lower insurance rates too. I'd suggest looking in Lakeshore Estates in Lytle. You'll have far more police patrol here too. You're about 15 minutes from Lackland. Lakeshore is out IH 35 south. You'll be in a sandy loam environment which beats the heck out of the clay crap you're looking at now. The soil there will grow almost anything. The area is surrounded by farms. Here's a 2600 sq ft home for sale in Lakeshore for you consider as an example of the subdivision.
