They are not everywhere on the far north side of town.

I live in Stone Oak near Wilderness Oak/Canyon Golf and work San Pedro/Thousand Oaks. There is a Shell on corner near my office bldg. But you would think there would be a lot more! If I go to work via 281, the Shell is the only one that I pass.

I usually go to Valero on 1604/Voigt. There is a Chevron at Stone Oak/Huebner. But the little amount of driving I have done here, I do not see many...but Valeros are more plentiful than anything else.

Even my coworker has said the same thing and she lives The Pearl and has been here awhile and her Dad lives near where I do and says there are not that many. I guess we are used to Houston when they are literally on every corner.

Stone Oak is over the recharge zone for the Edwards Aquifer. Therefore, things like underground storage tanks for gas are highly regulated and expensive to install/maintain.

I, too, would love to see another one in the Stone Oak Parkway/281 area. Years ago, there was one where a Mattress Pro stands now.

I'm glad to see that someone else agrees with me. I thought I was going crazy. Seems like with all the high tech stuff we can do, you would think they could figure something out for this too.

The problem is, one leaking fuel tank would ruin hundreds of thousands of people's drinking water. It's better not to tempt fate.

OK. So how can they have the Chevron on Stone Oak/Huebner?

Because they paid to have it built, and pay to maintain it properly. If you notice, they are also one of the more expensive places in town.

Rumor is they are putting a gas station in the new complex at Stone Oak/Evans. Don't know how true it is, but it's what I've heard. I will agree there are not many gas stations up here. 2 of them have closed in the past couple of years. 281/Stone Oak, and 281/Borgfield.

bje333, you're not crazy. Stone Oak has always been like that. The recharge zone and all that comes with it (traffic, lack of gas stations, etc.) is the main reason I won't ever live out there. That Chevron at Huebner and Stone Oak has been there a long time and always been astronomically priced.
