Stone Oak is over the recharge zone for the Edwards Aquifer. Therefore, things like underground storage tanks for gas are highly regulated and expensive to install/maintain.

I'm glad to see that someone else agrees with me. I thought I was going crazy. Seems like with all the high tech stuff we can do, you would think they could figure something out for this too.

The problem is, one leaking fuel tank would ruin

Because they paid to have it built, and pay to maintain it properly. If you notice, they are also one of the more expensive places in town.
Rumor is they are putting a gas station in the new complex at Stone Oak/Evans. Don't know how true it is, but it's what I've heard. I will agree there are not many gas stations up here. 2 of them have closed in the past couple of years. 281/Stone Oak, and 281/Borgfield.

bje333, you're not crazy. Stone Oak has always been like that. The recharge zone and all that comes with it (traffic, lack of gas stations, etc.) is the main reason I won't ever live out there. That Chevron at Huebner and Stone Oak has been there a long time and always been astronomically priced.
