True, but Detroit is a hub for NWA (Northwest). They will have the non-stops...and probably the most flights. Might not (and probably WON'T) be the cheapest.

I was surprised at how expensive the flight from San Diego to SAT over the Thanksgiving holiday was going to be. For just a bit more, we were able to fly FIRST CLASS on Northwest. THAT was a nice flight both ways!

I remember reading that southwest had purchased a huge amount of jet fuel at contract rates, when it was inexpensive. this enabled them to offer competitive rates to its consumers. maybe that jet fuel ran out?

Some of the hedges have run out, but Southwest is still paying less for fuel than its competitors. Southwest's new CEO has shifted the company's focus toward the "p" word... profitability. In an era with high fuel costs, that means higher fares.
