Just got an email from google titled

GOOGLE FIBER IS COMING

#Hi there,
Great news. Google Fiber is coming to San Antonio.

Last year we began working with San Antonio to explore the possibility of bringing super fast Internet to residents and businesses. The interest, enthusiasm and commitment of your city and community is what got us here. Thank you.

We’re excited to bring Google Fiber to San Antonio.

Tell your friends that #FiberIsComing:

So what does this mean? We’re now beginning the very hard work of designing and building a new fiber network. This will take time.
You can follow our blog or social channels for updates on our progress. And of course, when there’s big news to share, we’ll be sure to reach out.

Thanks for having us,
The Google Fiber team

The EXODUS from TWC will commence once the masses flock over to
google...

it's been real TWC but 20mb per sec is not cutting it, not when I go to South
Korea and they have over 1 GBS and lower costs....

prepare for TWC to push out more data without costs...but I think it's going to
do little good..

you can google TWC vs. Google Fiber + Utah Salt lake and get a good read
it's been a bloodbath over there.....

If they do commit to bringing the service to the entire city footprint over the next however many years, that is great! If anything, at least their presence will just be the kick the incumbents need to up their game.

One amusing note is that the image they used to announce the service shows the San Antonio skyline backwards, or rather flipped east to west. They must have taken the picture and then decided to photoshop it for some reason.

Grande is the best service I've ever used but it isn't available where I moved to.

One thing that I noticed about their site is that if you click on the "GO" button and it doesn't really do anything but scroll down the page, check to see which browser you are using. The link failed in Windows Edge on Windows 10, but worked in IE 11 on Windows 10, and again it worked in Google Chrome and in Firefox on Windows 10.

Why another Google Fiber thread? Can't this be merged with the other?

Because there are still doubters....

quote from the other thread

Statements like "I think we are there", "I think we are in good shape", and "Now, we must wait on google to make it's next move", don't tell me this is a done deal.
