+1 for Lemi-shine. but watch out, it took the printed measurements right off our glass measuring cup. Powerful stuff!

I just use a teaspoon of citric acid in every wash. It's cheaper than Lemi-Shine.

I use citric acid as well, but have wondered about a water softener. Would a water softener prevent buildup in the water line to my fridges ice maker?

The hard water in San Antonio is HORRIBLE. When I first got there 20 years ago I didn't even know what that stuff was until the plumber told us. I tried everything including LemiShine but nothing worked until I started pouring half cup of vinegar into every wash and that worked.

I use the citric acid also and it works great. As far as I know that's all that Lemi-Shine is anyways.

Many tks to everyone!!

I have tried vinegar but didn't seem to do much. I will check out the other items.

We did have Cascade at work and it did a horrible job. Target dishwasher stuff did a better job at work.

But geesh, the water here is horrible folks!! Yuck!!

At my apt, the dishwasher also has a hard time dissolving the soap. Is it the water problem or crappy dishwasher?

Yes - and the water heater and commodes, as well. Haven't cleaned our Bunn coffee pot in 11 years, either.....

BTW - my apologies - I forgot that Cascade reformulated quite a few years ago! When they did, I went online and bought a case of their "commercial" line of soap (Amazon is one source). Main difference? The commercial line has phosphate in it - the residential doesn't.

I also pour some vinegar in the beginning of the wash. My dishwasher does a drain cycle at the beginning before the wash starts, check to see if yours does that. If it does, you have to wait until that's done before pouring the vinegar or else it's getting drained out before the wash starts. I also seem to have better luck using Oxi Clean dishwasher detergent.

Hot water from faucet not hot enough?

I always run my kitchen faucet briefly before starting the dishwasher.
