Ok computer nerds....need advice.
Got a new computer and was getting ready to hook up to Time-Warning, when I noticed online that they now charge $10.00 a month to rent their crappy modem.
Rather buy my own than give those ghouls my money. Am going to go with the 50/5 plan as that's all I need for what I do. Possibly kick it up to 100/10. Whats a good modem these days? Where's the best place to buy?
Thanks in advance!

check the prior posts. There is more to it than that. TWC has a master list of modems that they will accept on their network. And you have to call it in to get it activated on their network.

There are links in the prior posts.

TWC Modem Compatibility List - 2016 Compatible Modems | Time Warner Cable Approved Modems

If you KNOW you are only going to go up to 100, the Motorola SB6141 is what I would recommend, beyond 100Mbps I recommend the SB6183. You can find them at any big box store but look online for cheaper prices and refurbs if you don't mind waiting a a couple days.

Here is the one I bought last year, it is on the TWC approved list and should be good for up to 300 Mbps on their system.
Amazon.com: ARRIS SURFboard SB6183 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem - Retail Packaging - White: Computers & Accessories

I wouldn't recommend the SB6141, it will work but for a little more money for the SB6183 you're a lot more future proof.

Good move. Remember after you have it hooked up you have to call TWC to get it activated on their network.

Need more advice from the computer wizards out there.
Got my 6183 hooked up....works great except when the computer is idle for awhile, I have to unplug the modem and restart it. It can be idle for maybe an hour or overnight, and when I go to use it, there is a very weak signal or none at all. All the lights on the modem are on indicating everything is working, but unless I reboot the modem, it will not work like it should. I leave my computer on all the time.
Is there a setting on the computer I overlooked or ?
Thanks in advance!
