I'm currently from the dfw metroplex and am relocating to San Antonio because of my job. I'm trying to find the best place to live that would have all of my needs and be something similar to what I'm used to being around. Currently I live in an upper middle class town where the median income is 140,000 with a town of 70,000 people. I currently make a decent salary and would like to be around other well established families in a low crime area. Though I will be working around north eastern San Antonio driving upwards of 45 minutes to an hour isn't an issue if that means being in a good area. My budget for a home would be between 400,000 and 650,000. Unless I haven't looked well the only place I found suitable was called vintage oaks and Rockwall ranch in new braunfels. What other subdivisions are safe, gated and have access to restaurants and shopping?

Try 78258,78259, 78260 and 78261. Most of this is within the city limits of SA (some into Comal County) but on the far north central side and suburban not urban. Gated neighborhoods, shopping and restaurants abound.

At that budget, check out Fossil Ridge in the 78261 zip code .

Oakwell farms is, safe, gated and has easy access to the northeast side. If you want new, try the gardens at urban crest.

Where you work may dictate where you want to live. We may be able to narrow down great areas based on that as well as other ammenties you would like to be around.

Working in northeastern San antonio near the AT&T center. I don't want to be in schertz, cibolo or converse though. I have made many visits to San Antonio and new braunfels really caught my attention but I'd like to give San Antonio a chance and see what I can find in the northern area. Also preferably something newer as my family and I are uninterested in old homes as its not our preference.

That New Braunfels drive will be a big ole pain in the butt, but if it caught your attention then go for it. There really aren't any areas that fit what you want within a close drive of the ATT center.

Have you considered the Dominion or Boerne areas? From the tone of your previous surroundings in D/FW, those areas will be closer to what you are looking but it will be day and night if you are trying to compare D/FW to SA. Good luck.

Vintage Oaks and Rockwall Ranch are out in the country so you'll be in for a drive whether you're going to work or running to the store to buy a Coke.

If that's your game there is a Chesmar Neighborhood in Garden Ridge about 10 minutes from Rockwall called the Woodlands of Garden Ridge. There is also Ramble Ridge on 3009 that has some Weekley and custom homes.

If you really like that type of lifestyle I think Vintage Oaks has the most to offer and some really nice lots.
