Especially with the rain, seems the fire ants pop up with huge mounds overnight.

MANY people are allergic to their bites, and even if you are not, they hurt like the dickens and keep hurting for days.

Here is an EASY, NO CHEMICAL way to get rid of them almost as quickly as they pop up. Hope this helps!

Here is a great, inexpensive way to get rid of FIRE ANTS! This is especially beneficial to those of us in the south. Be sure to share this little secret with your friends!

Simply pour 2 cups of CLUB SODA directly in the center of a fire ant mound. The carbon dioxide in the water is heavier than air and displaces oxygen which suffocates the queen and the other ants. The whole colony will be dead within about two days. Each mound must be treated individually and a one liter bottle of club soda will kill 2 to 3 mounds..

Snopes says it won't work. Club Soda Gets Rid of Fire Ants? : snopes.com

Orthene is a whole lot quicker (if you can still find it). Seems like it was on a ban list.

I use diatomaceous earth...not the quickest thing and it doesn't get rid of them all but it won't hurt the frogs or toads that live in my yard and visit my pond.

One of the neighbors was telling me about using beneficial nematodes, but you've got to put them out at the right time of year or they won't help.

Years ago I had a business by SA College and a fire ant hill about the size of a pickup truck. Obviously not as high just spread out. One of the Ortho folks came by and said Hey, I can get rid of that for you. He got a small can of Orothene from his car that was in a plastic bag. You could smell the chemical even in a can and in a plastic bag. He put about a tablespoon on the disturbed mound and said Let's do lunch. We were gone about 1 1/2 hours. He got out of the truck and walk over and into the fire ant mound. Nothing moved. It worked that quick. Seems when one ant eats it, he becomes poison. As other ants clean the nest of the dead, they become poison, all the way to the queen. Best stuff ever made for fire ants. You can still buy it but it's hard to find. You can buy it online too. A little goes a LONG way.
