I am on the North West side next to Westcreek, only about 7 min from seaworld and 15 min from base.

I personally dislike on base housing, when you live on base if feels like you are never off work, all your friends and neighbors are military, I think you miss out on some of the positives of living in a new place and meeting new people...

San Antonio is one of the fastest growing places in America, can't promise it will be that way in 3 years but there is no sign of a major slow down here, plus with interest rates dropping it is a good time to buy. You can get really nice houses (especially when compared to base housing) here for $150-$200k and with BAH at $1450 or higher for you (Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) use 78253 for zip) that is pretty affordable.

BAH is based on the zipcode of the base, so Lackland would be 78236, but 78253 is a good area to look for a home

Is Westcreek a town or neighborhood. What is the zipcode of that area?

Does anyone have any insight as to what cell phone company has the best coverage in SA?

Your concerns about medical care should be eased...you will probably received all your care at WHMC...large Neph and Hem/Onc depts.

If they don't have what you need, they will get you outsourced well. With the UTSA Med School here, they have some exceptional physicians on staff.

That will be nice for you, especially if you live on base. Some of the base housing is VERY nice, the schools on Lackland are exceptional and the convenienct of not having to fight traffic if you decide to live on base is always a bennie.

Welcome to SA....know you will enjoy your tour here! Let is know if we can help in any way.

Here are some UTHSCA listings for physicians IN SA specializing in your needs:

Department of Pediatrics - UT Health Science Center at San Antonio (broken link)

Smile PSC from Dover AFB to Lackland

Hello,

I was reading your post and I just helped a family move into a home in the Windfield Community that was just relocated to Lackland. I would say in this area several people from what I am seeing are looking at buying because interest rates are so low. Resale value in this area is very good due to the location. You can view the community website at Home . There are several schools in the area as well. In that community you have the choice to either build a home from ground up or select a home ready to move into. They give you incentives either way. Good Luck!

That seems like an awful long commute! Are you sure they weren't relocated to Randolph AFB?

I use to have Sprint 3 years ago, but did not get a good signal in Westcreek, so switched to Cingular (at&t now) and get a great signal.

I thought that as well, but they said this worked better for them due to the traffic they would face on the NW side. They spoke with some of the neighbors while moving in and apparently there are several Lackland families there as well. I guess to each his own, they didn't mind the 20 min drive since there was little traffic.
