The practice is illegal and the texas attorney general will investigate

While price gouging is almost always unethical, it is not always illegal.

Conversly just because a price increases doesn't mean it's gouging

But when you come out with a 50% increase, there IS an expectation of a reasonable explanation.....

It is like if McDonald's was currently selling burgers for $2 each, then suddenly decides to sell the same burger but half of the original size the next month for $4 with NO explanation to the customer.

Express News is doing the same. Shrinking the paper while raising prices. They are pricing themselves out of existence in hardcopy paper format. It almost makes me think they are purposely trying to get everyone to switch to digital with the massive increases.

Do you follow the financial behind the cost to produce the paper?

It is my understanding that Express News does not have to disclose their financials to the public however, massive increases will demand explanation (rightfully so) from the customer base.

Are you saying we should blindly pay whatever increase they throw our way as customers if we want the product?

As with any business that does not disclose financials, they are still subject to scrutiny of the customers and/or possible investigation by the government if there is any sudden price hike that is deemed unfair. Usually these investigations get started by the customers loudly complaining such as in this case.

Do you? Fuel costs are down - which means trucking costs for newsprint paper should be down, as well. Either way - as noted, they're working to get folks to stop reading the hard print.....and their online offering is a joke.
