I have a 3 referrals from my primary care doctor but after doing some research, I have not been able to find many reviews about them online. I have pretty much driven myself crazy Googling reviews of doctors and thought I would see who is recommended from the "real" people on this forum. If you have an experience with a doctor that you feel I should stay away from, please DM me. I live in the far N SA area but, I will drive as far as necessary for the best. ~TIA

#1- you are looking for a GENERAL SURGEON, Gastroenterologists do not perform cholecystectomies
#2- It is a straightforward, commonly performed procedure; any general surgeon in practice for more than a few years should have hundreds under his belt.
#3- If you have underlying serious chronic medical conditions (heart/pulmonary/endocrine, etc), your choice (which most likely would be your surgeon's choice) of anesthesiology provider is more/just-as important!
#4- Not sure I'd consider online reviews for physicians in the same way as I look for taqueria reviews

Agree with gto; this is such a common surgery ... I've known people who had their gall bladder removed in a day surgery clinic; they didn't even spend a night in the hospital.

They probably have a do-it-yourself gall bladder removal kit at Walgreens.

You're right to take this seriously. Because too many people just assume that a commonly done operation can be done right by just about any old surgeon. They'd be wrong! It's major surgery and any little or big mistake can be extremely serious. My DH's life was severely impacted by just that kind of operation. He almost died because of it and now he's completely disabled, mainly because a surgeon made a mistake and cut an artery to one side of his liver. Then another mistake happened, which nobody caught, causing sepsis later on. His health was destroyed and his ability to work ended the day of that operation. Was Dr. Steven Abbate on that list of doctors? I've heard he has a very good reputation and is listed among the top surgeons in San Antonio, although we personally haven't used his services.

Smile Geneal surgeon

Gary Hall with Alamo City Surgeons is in Stone Oak. I work at a doctors office and we've gotten good feedback from patients. Also Bruce Conway with General surgical associates. They have several locations throughout the city I just can't remember which one he's at.

Dr.Gary Hall is whom my GP Dr. Naik sent to see about getting my gall bladder out. Haven't done it yet as I have Humana Insurance and am trying to save up money for the deductable. If it went for the damned deductable I would have done it sooner. Now my employer the local district has contracted or is contracting with some brokerage firm or whatever to find us better health insurance.Everyone is unhappy with Humana. Should have gotten insurance through my part time job as well,so maybe they might cover it but didn't. I may do that though.

I had my gallbladder out a couple of years ago after going to ER in horrible pain. Turns out that I had a complicated problem. I was so lucky that I went to the hospital that I went to at the time I went, because I ended up getting seen by Dr. Bala Viswanathan (AKA Dr. Vish). He was amazing and really took the time to talk to me and explain everything. A specialist had to take care of a particular issue before I could remove my gallbladder and Dr. Vish drove all the way downtown (from Stone Oak) during my surgery to check in on me during the procedure. I would highly recommend him!
