My 10 years old son is currently in 5th grade, which he is going to complete in June. During the summer we are moving to San Antonio and he is going to attend a school in AHID. My question is:

Is he going to be placed in 6th grade or (because of his age) the school will ask him to repeat 5th grade?

Hope you could give me some info about it. Thank you

Why don't you just call the school district and ask them?

That being said, I didn't go to school here, but when i started 6th grade I was 11, I didn't turn 12 till the summer before 7th grade started.

I believe the only age requirement is that they be 5 by September 1st to start kindergarten.

I already asked the school district but the only thing they told me was they need to take a look at his transcripts.

Which is probably the only way to answer your question. Send them your kid's transcript.

Unless the transcript shows his school is teaching 4th grade material in 5th grade, he won't repeat 5th grade. They don't base his grade level on age once they've gone past kinder.

In Texas, a student must be 5 to enter Kinder, and 6 to enter 1st grade. Once they are beyond that point, they generally are placed in the grade immediately following the one that they just successfully completed.

I have had many students from California and Georgia enter my 5th grade classroom even through they are 9 (most are 10 or 11), as those states have age cutoff dates of Dec.1.
