I would recommend New section Shavano Park, Shavano Creek and Bently Manor. Dominion, Crownridge...anything up I-10 are all good and close to USAA.
Stone Oak area is nice, but the traffic is horrible.

I agree with Primo. Stone Oak is not all that. Put it in Houston and it's not an upper tier community. I'd look at the Shavano area and if you want good schools, focus on the communities off I-10 outside 1604 as well as the Sonoma area around Kyle Seale and 1604.

Stone Oak is not that great. There are nice areas in Stone Oak, but for the most part it is nicer tract/semi -custom homes costing 2.5-400k.

Default Sonoma Ranch

Try looking in Sonoma Ranch, zip code 78023. For example, here is a house
on 1.31 acres:

Bradfield Properties sells real estate in San Antonio, Boerne, Bulverde, New Braunfels, Kerrville, Highland Lakes, and the surrounding Texas hill Country. (http://www.bradfieldproperties.com/property/property.asp?PRM_MLSNumber=671745&PRM_MlsName=SanA ntonio - broken link)

Sonoma Ranch has sections called the Summit and the Reserve with larger
homes and larger lots. It is located at Kyle Seale and Loop 1604, an easy
commute to USAA.

Sonoma Ranch has a community pool, tennis court, and volleyball court.

I live in another neighborhood of Sonoma Ranch and three of my neighbors work at USAA.

Good luck.

Look into the older sections of Fair Oaks Ranch on 10. Good size houses good size lots.

Maybe you can try out in Fair Oaks subdivision? Those have a few acres associated with each house and run between 500-750k

I just moved here for USAA too. Granted I was looking in alittle lower price range than you are. Helotes had some nice homes in your range on half acre to an acre lots. You may also want to check out some new neighborhoods going into the Sonoma Ranch/Grandview areas off Kyle Seale Parkway. Unfortunately, with being new to the area I don't know the zip codes. I am building out in Alamo Ranch and you can get some larger lots (.5 to an acre) out on the Northwest side of town but this may be alittle longer commute than you are looking for. The Northside School district does have a website outlining the school districts and all the ratings of each individual school. I will see if I can find the link for you.

I would look in Fair Oaks Ranch. It would be a 30-45 minute drive to USAA depending on where exactly in FOR your lived and traffic. FOR is a great community that feeds into Boerne schools which are very good. You could definitely find a nice house on a decent lot in FOR for that price range. I know someone selling one right now for around $500K that is 3Bed 3 full bath, 3 car garage, 3 living areas, nice large kitchen, on about 3/4-1 acre.

I also agree with the Shavano Park suggestion. Even Hollywood Park wouldn't be a crazy drive to USAA and it's a great community with large lots.
