Guess we'll just grin and bear it. First time in Texas and we'll have fun regardless. Thanks

Got back from our Vacation a few weeks ago. Overall we had a good time in your state. People were generally nice and traffic wasn't bad (of course it was during July 4th week so expected).

A few things:

- Roads were pretty bad all around. They were actually worse then Colorado roads. And I thought ours were pretty bad
- Turnarounds/Frontage roads along highway. This is something new to me and must be a Texas thing. Took awhile to get used to it. In some regards I understand it but honestly wouldn't want to be driving on it on a daily basis. Exit/Entrance ramps just pop up and on the left side of frontage road. Very disorienting. We were mostly on 1604 loop in SA. To get to hotel that was just across the road from us but on other side of highway we had to go past it and use next turnaround vs normally just making a left under highway and right on two lane road in most areas.
- Road speed limits are a bit higher (positive for me). They were 70-75 most smaller highways and 80 on Interstates. These usually average 5mph then here in Colorado. People were driving fast but not reckless which I prefer.

But we had a great time at Sea World and although the weather was reading 100 degrees it wasn't overbearing (nothing like Vegas). Get in the shade and you get some relief.

We went to Malaquite Beach and it was very nice. Beautiful drive and quiet along the beach towards sunset. We should have camped a day there.

Yeah, I don't get the whole frontage road fascination. They don't have the best road engineers here. They need to take some cues from the ones in MD. In my opinion the thing destroying the road quality here are all the active quarries. Grit is everywhere. Trucks are everywhere.

One other thing which took me a while to get used to around here is how Texans have this thing for just walking out in front of cars trusting that they will stop. No attention is paid to cross walks, street lights, or whatever. It's no wonder that like 50 people have been killed this year alone as pedestrians in San Antonio. Many a time I've been at like an HEB or whatever, and people just walk right in front of you without being in a cross walk. In NJ and NY that will definitely get you killed.

Apparently it will get you killed here too. Stupid is stupid no matter where you live.
