Southtown is an area where artists live and work, it has lots of bars and nightclubs and restaurants that don't get busy until night time.

Also, there is First Friday and Second Saturday.

These pictures were posted originally in 2006. Two of those places no longer exist. The area has changed dramatically in the past SEVEN years.

New places since then:
Filling Station
Bliss
Monterey
Bite
Feast
Liberty Bar
Friendly Spot
La Frite (opened in 2006, so maybe it had just opened then)
Alamo St Eat Bar
Southtown Yoga Loft
The gifty-crafty store next to La Frite
All the stores/offices along S. St Mary's like Sweb and the Mexican goods store are new
Assorted art galleries along S. St Mary's
Southtown 101
RetroHaus
Barbed Wire Grill was there then I think, then became Mr' Tim's until recently. Now to be Senor Veggie (finally a vegetarian restaurant!!)
St Benedict's lofts

And all the stuff at Blue Star
