Another East Side Incident....
MySA.com: Metro | State (http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/metro/stories/MYSA021908.01B.teenshooting.367ac26.html - broken link)

"We're not out here talking about Martin Luther King Jr. We're not out here talking about Malcolm X," Nolden said of the mostly African American neighborhood. "We out here talking about Bloods and Crips, because that's all we've known about since we're 5."

all teens and most wearing bright red, congregated on the porch of a dilapidated house near the scene of the shooting.

A man, who refused to identify himself, stopped in a truck and pleaded with the gathered youths not to seek revenge.

"I'm not going to lie to you, there's some (gang members) around here," said Quinten Nolden, 17. "Look at this neighborhood, what do you see for kids to do out here?"

Nolden and the other youths insisted that Monday's slaying was not gang-related. But he and other residents spoke of a scourge of violence in the neighborhood perpetuated by burgeoning gang activity that a police spokesman acknowledged has recently spiked.

Ok...and your point is? This isn't news. Everyone know that there are gangs, but they're not exclusive to the Eastside.

Exactly.

How can we address this issue of recent gang activity over there?

I mean, there has always been gangs but lately it has risen. How can this be combated?

SpoiledWife, there are threads you could place this in instead of creating an entirely new one to keep your agenda going. Gangs in the inner city of a metropolitan area of 2 million, shocking...

I doubt miss SpoiledWife would ever post something good that happened in San Antonio like a neighbor helping a neighbor in time of need or the city coming to the aid of one their own San Antonians or whatever good happens here. Nope, we just get the same streamlined, negative BS from you time after time. I suspect that will not be changing any time soon. Instead, this suburban housewife will continue to be content to make SA look like Little Rock or South Central.

Why can't we all just get along?

(said with sarcasm).

Idiots got nothing better to do than shoot each other over "turf".

Get a life little gangbangers.

Never understood the whole "gang" mentality. Did not need others to make my own sense of identity and self worth.

My thoughts exactly. I don't understand the purpose of focusing on stuff like this. Anyone with a brain will know that you'll find crime in any large city. You don't have to hit them over the head with it at every turn. Besides, the "spikes" are cyclical. At this point in time, it just happens to be "spiking" on the Eastside. Next month, it'll be "spiking" in another part of the city. Someone has wwwwaaaayyyyy too much time on her hands, but instead of using that time positively has chosen otherwise.
