I enjoy walking along the river between southtown and downtown with my young son. He's barely past potty-training age, which means the time between "I have to go potty" and having an accident is about 5-10 minutes. Does anyone know of any restrooms that are near that section of the river? The closest one shown on the trail maps is at Main Plaza.

It seems like there should be a bathroom (or at least a port-a-potty) near the BlueStar, but I haven't found one yet.

Any advice?

We ride the trail along the river sometimes. There's a bathroom at Roosevelt Park. My kids really enjoy the stretch of trail between BlueStar and Roosevelt park because there's an old factory and a bridge. It's probably too long of a walk for a little guy, but you could park at Roosevelt and walk the trail from there, then take him to play in the park when you were finished.

Thanks! That's a great idea.

With all the increased traffic around southtown lately, I think it would be great if the city added facilities somewhere along the route. Probably a tough sell politically after the bad press from the infamous "$100k toilet" downtown.

It would be great if there were more bathrooms.

We usually plan our route so that we start at one of the parks that has a restroom, even though my kids are picky and usually won't use the restroom at a park unless they're desperate.

If you haven't taken your son to Yanaguana Garden, y'all should go. It's really fun. I know that doesn't have anything to do with the bathroom question, but I took my kids a couple weeks ago and they loved it.

I agree they need more facilities downtown, especially since we are so big on tourism.
I would think that any shop/restaurant, etc. along the way would let your little guy use their facilities.
Third tree on the left or the river would work in a pinch if possible. (little boys love doing that).
Enjoy your time with your little man. Sure miss mine at that age. (mine will be 21 in dec.! )

YES! There is a bathroom inside the building where Joe Blues and Bar 1919 https://bluestarartscomplex.com/map/#joe-blues It's on the main level. That door leads to offices and has always been open when I've been there. I'm not sure how well the bathrooms are sign posted, but if you go in the main doors (up the steps), turn right, then left.

Also, Halcyon has never complained about someone running in to use their bathrooms.

If it's a weekday during working hours, SARA (Guenther St) will also let you in to use theirs. If you're closer to downtown, you have to go up to street level. I think the closest is HEB on S. Flores. You can come up to Beauregard and use the one at Madhatters. The vast majority of restaurants in that area do not complain about people using their restrooms. The only one who does is Urth on S. Presa.

And if you're headed south, Roosevelt Park has one. But that's 1 mile down from Blue Star.

The advantage of having a boy! My daughter would never do this but in a pinch, it's worked for my son (who has a much harder time holding it). Not something I encourage but when necessary....
