We have zeroed in on the Stone Oak area for our move & want to be in the best schools in the Northeast ISD. Of the elementary schools in the area, (Canyon Ridge, Steubing, Wilderness Oak, Hardy, Stone Oak, etc.), which is the best? Do they all feed into the same high school?

Which are the best Middle & High Schools in Stone Oak?

Also, what can you tell me about capping? Should I avoid buying in a neighborhood that feeds to a capped school (Canyon Ridge)?

Steubing Ranch is not a Stone Oak school. All 4 Stone Oak area schools, IMHO, are exceptional. School caps change from year to year, and from grade to grade. And people move all of the time. You want to register your children ASAP, in order to get a spot, or get on the waiting list.

The person at the NEISD registration office called Steubing a Stone Oak school, what do I know. And we can't register until we have an address. Want to make sure we buy in the right neighborhood, best schools etc.

You can register if you have a rental, or, if you have a home under contract.

All of Stone Oak is served by Reagan High School, although I believe that a small portion of it will move to Johnson when that school opens next year. Both Tejeda Middle School and Bush Middle School are good. Most of Stone Oak is in the Bush attendance area. Tejeda is a few years newer than Bush.

MM,

Here are some information I used before buying and building a home in the area. I am sure you alreay read about the traffic issues around 281, 1604, and stone oak parkway.

Check which schools that community zoned for before signing that contract. Click the link and type in the street.
North East ISD Street Address Database -- find out which school you should attend

Lopez Middle Boundary
NEISD Press Release -- Board adopts boundaries,*appoints principal*for*Lopez Middle School (http://www.neisd.net/pr/news/Lopez_Boundary.html - broken link)

Johnson High School (schedule to open Fall 2008)

I responded to your inquiries below:

"We have zeroed in on the Stone Oak area for our move & want to be in the best schools in the Northeast ISD. Of the elementary schools in the area, (Canyon Ridge, Steubing, Wilderness Oak, Hardy, Stone Oak, etc.), which is the best? My wife and I considered all the elementary schools in the area: Canyon Ridge, Hardy Oak, Wilderness Oak, Stone Oak, and Roan Forest on the other side of 281N when we're planning to buy a home almost 2-years ago, and we decided to go Canyon Ridge Elementary. I checked each of the schools at NEISD School Campuses 2007-2008 and also called to talk to the staff before making my decision.

Do they all feed into the same high school? There are two high schools (Reagan and Johnson) in the area and three middle schools (Bush, Lopez, and Tejeda). I've attended couple meeting during the boundary consideration for Reagan and Johnson, and they finally adopted one. Bush & Lopez feed to Reagan and Tejeda feeds to Johnson. CHECK THE EXCEPTIONS: Mountain lodge, Fairway Bridge, and other communities in that area maybe affected so you're aware before buying that house.

Which are the best Middle & High Schools in Stone Oak? My two boys are currently attending Canyon Ridge, and will attend Bush and Reagan. Hopefully the school district honor their words not to redo the boundaries; however, if they do it's still a win-win situation - Reagan or Johnson. Before you decide, do your research and talk to the staff.

Also, what can you tell me about capping? Should I avoid buying in a neighborhood that feeds to a capped school (Canyon Ridge)?" My oldest is currently in the 5th at CR and he's in the portables or the school calls it modular. The school district added the modulars to accomodate students.

Before you decide, do your research and talk to the staff. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Aloha

Wilderness oak elementary and Canyon ridge are the newest ones built.
Hardy Oak and stone oak elementary are older but have a great reputation.

All the schools have similar curriculum and way of teaching, so comparing them is difficult.
Lopez Middle school is brand new and has a great campus.
Bush is older , great campus and reputation.
Reagan is the high school as has been pointed out and Ie only heard good things abt it.

Should I buy in Saddle Mountain knowing that it is boundaried into Johnson High School, while the rest (majority) of the Bush Middle School kids will go on to Reagan?
