Texas department of Transportation (TxDot) and City of San Antonio (SA),

Please develop the 281 highway North of 1604 (either by raising the highway or raising the cross streets) so that 281 has no stoplights at all along the highway.

Unfortunately, according to public data, people are moving to the San Antonio/New Braunfels area in droves from all over the country. In fact, our area is the second most moved to spot in the nation. That's right. Not just Texas, not just the region but the nation. Because of this, expect traffic to continue to exponentially get worse every year. Goodbye large city with a small city feel, reasonable traffic and affordable living. Hello higher traffic, higher home prices, higher fuel prices, higher food prices, higher taxes and higher prices in general. This post will attempt to focus on the higher traffic. Specifically the higher traffic on 281 North of 1604.

Before 1604, traveling northbound, 281 does not have stop lights. After 1604 northbound, its starts being stop lights galor. That area in the past 10-15 years was not really developed nor did it have stoplights. Now that area, with the influx of massive amounts of people, is blowing up and tons of stoplights have been added. The problem with having stoplights along 281 North in that spot and having large amounts of people there is it backs up traffic from that spot all the way back to 410 and south of 410 during rush hour. Basically, having stoplights anywhere along 281 creates a tremendous amount of traffic for 281.

281/37 is a major (not minor) highway and should not have ANY stoplights along it. 281 needs to be a straight through highway by raising up 281 in that area, or raising up the cross streets.

Please develop the 281 highway North of 1604 so that it has no stoplights at all along the highway to help alleviate the tremendous traffic build up during rush hour.

Thanks for that but after reading it, it looks like they just plan on adding lanes and doing nothing about bypassing the stoplights. Am I interpreting it wrong?

Yes, overpasses are being built at the major intersections all the way to Borgfeld.

Thank you so much for the links to the pictures. It appears they are going to let us cross over to the other side of 281 instead of using the "super-streets"- my kids call them stupid-streets based on my tirade everytime I am forced to go that way. I'm really hoping they do. I honestly will shop over on TPC Pkwy if I don't have to deal with them!

The "super street" was just a short term countermeasure until long term countermeasure could be found (or funded). When I made one pass on that street, I told myself that I am very glad I don't live anywhere near Stone Oak or Bulverde. You can have that madness all to yourself.

Yes, it will be even more congested and terrible during rush hours then it is now with major construction. Which is pretty terrible now.
