25% of it goes to public education (which is mandated by the Texas Constitution.) The other 75% goes to the Highway Fund. However, the Legislature has seen it in their wisdom to take 10% of Highway Fund revenues (which also includes 90% of vehicle registration fees) to spend on non-transportation appropriations. The remainder goes to TxDOT for transportation projects.

Keep in mind that in addition to that plundering, the gas tax hasn't been raised since 1991, so its value has been cut by more than 50% since then due to inflation, especially construction inflation.

Changing the subject a little, since we have TexHwyMan here, I'd like to ask about 151. Will the extension from 1604 to 211 be built in the median of Alamo Ranch Parkway?

Marvelous. And we seem to be ok with that.

So, if an elevated road over Bandera Rd is unfesable, what is it that is currently going up (and definitely elevated) at the corner of 410 and Bandara now??? Is that just an elevated off ramp to help with the traffic congestion at the Bandara/410 and Warzbach/Bandera intersection????

It's similar to the, "151 underpass will not start until 09" comment. What are those trucks out there doing construction on then? Flowerbeds?

Exactly. Those are direct connectors that will connect southbound Bandera to eastbound 410 and westbound 410 to northbound Bandera. Removing that traffic from those intersections should loosen things-up considerably there.

I'll have to drive over there today and take a look, but I can tell you that the only project TxDOT has going on right now anywhere along 151 is landscape work at Loop 410. I even confirmed with their PIO yesterday that the underpass project is now rolled into the 1604 project, which is tentatively scheduled to begin in late 2009 as of right now.

Its gotta be just the access road then, but logic would dictate they would plan for it now, but we all know how that works out...

Yes, that is the plan. The exisiting Alamo Ranch Parkway would become the access roads for the future 151.
