Yes Edge Falls was an exotic place. Hard to believe it was left open for people to come on in. The jump from the top was too high for me. When we were in high school in Blanco, Texas (class of '65) we went there to swim a few times. Last time I went was in 1970. I have no idea about it's condition or even location now. I never heard of anyone getting killed there, but then I suppose it could have happened. It was a natural falls off a rock cliff into a deep pool and you could swim over to a little island or spit of land to sun bath. Rather remarkable as I recall.

I can't tell. Seems the falls were higher, and I don't remember such a volume of water coming over the rocks. It could very well be, though, it was a pretty sight and things do change, including my memory.

The more I look at it, the more I believe it is. I think the photo was taken from that rocky place I mentioned where you could sun bathe.

O.K. now I am sure. That is the place. I refused to even attempt to jump off that ridge to the left of the falls. Two females from our class did it and came out unscathed and with their swimsuits still intact. So much for macho! How embarassing to be shown up in high school by two female classmates. I did not drink at all back then, but it would have taken several stiff shots to work up enough courage for me to jump. I do NOT like falling through the air!

We went there on a regular basis in the 50s 60s 70s.
Diving off the cliff was fun, and the rope was great.
My grandmother told a lot of stories about going there in the early 1900s.

Here is a link to some historical info -
Handbook of Texas Online - CURRY CREEK

Below are some pix I have collected.
Some (Dec 65) were posted by gy2020 a while back.

Gotta love the South Texas winters.

Yep, that's it alright. I jumped off of the cliff when I was about 17 or 18 years old. When I walked up to the edge and looked down I thought OMG I can't do this. But there was a line of people behind me waiting to jump so I just did it. That was the first and last time.

Oh, yes....those snapshots in '65 was the year we went there before we graduated. Seeing all those kids and the rope diving brings it all back. It was a neat place, even if a little scary to some of us (the high cliff jump/dive). Whoever is in control of that land now has a magnificent, pristine piece of land..... and I'm sure they know it. This thread and site is so neat because there are plenty of memories and photos out there to share and bring back some otherwise lost memories. Way to go!!

Speaking of old swimming holes.... does anyone out there have some photos of the old Terrell Wells swimming pool? That old smelly southside pool has been mentioned many times by me and others, but no photos. Any takers? How I would love to see some of that sulphurous place!

I am pretty sure I went to Edge Falls for the last time in the summer of 1974. The thing I remember about it, was that you would go through a gate and give a guy a dollar ( MAYBE MORE I don't remember). You would park your car and everything looked like hot typical Texas in the summer. There was an iron ladder that you would climb down and everything got cooler-maybe 10 or more degree's cooler- and the water was actually kind of cold.
