Default Help

I passed by that Taco Taco on Hilderbrand the other day, and was trying to remember the name of the eatery when it first opened up. It is driving me crazy trying to remember the name.

I believe it originally was a Toddle House....something like a Waffle House.

I asked a friend and he told me it was "Steak and EGG", doing a search that was the place I was thinking about.

I hiked from the 1604 end of it all the way to Proton Road, and saw that there was much more to it then what I recall seeing from the frontage road. As you get closer to Proton Road, there is quite the park built there; but it is neglected and even a shopping cart tossed in the water.

This seems like it was a really cool place, but the construction around it has squeezed what's left of this park. Does anyone know the history behind this place?

It was probably both. Steak and Egg bought Toddle House out. Waffle House was a break-away compay from the original Toddle House.

Anyone have an idea when it opened?

1) Cess and Ronnies - it was located on McCullough Ave., I believe in Olmos Park. It was on the left side of the street inbound, and was in an old house. They carried a ton of plastic model kits, trains, etc. There was even a train that circled the shop outside that I think was large enough for small kids to ride. I remember the couple who owned it being old when I was a kid in the late '60's and early '70's. I have not been in that part of town is ages, so don't know if the house is still there or not.

2) This one is really strange, and I can't recall the name, but there was a radiator repair shop on the corner of I10 and Fred. Rd. (SE corner insode of I10 I recall) who's owner must have been big into model kits and toys. There were a bunch of glass cases around the shop with all sorts of old toys in them, and they sold some of them, and model kits and repaired radiators. It was one of the most bizarre combination of things that I have ever seen. I can't imagine that it's still there, and wish I could remember the name.

Anyone remember these?
Outstanding!!! Cess and Ronnies! I have been trying to figure this one out for twenty years! I went in that place about once with my brother in law when I was about 12. It was gone by the time I really wish it existed. But I do remember passing by that place almost once a week and drooling on the car window as my mom would not stop. When I finally went around 72 I thought it was the most amazing place in the world. I have also been to the gentlemans place on Fredericksburg road. I used to know his name but it has been at least 7 or 8 years since I have seen him. He was really big into trains and had amased an amazing collection of stuff over the years. I don't know if he is still around or not, he was getting up there. I will have to check next time I am there. Luckily my favorite Hobby Shop in SA is still there, Dibbles over on Donaldson. In fact, I was just there last month giving Jeff a bunch of my money. If you want a real blast from the past you must stop in. It has not changed at all in about 40 years. It along with Kings in Austin are the last true model shops left in Texas.
Thanks again for this wonderful memory.
SB
