Yes....with much grief and protest. But it had to go.

I have an album full of photos of the old buildings being knocked down. I hope to get them scanned before my 20th anniversary reunion next year.

Thanks for the link, Macgrad89. The only thing I recognized was the "Old Boys Gym" and I have to acknowledge that we from the early 1960s are in fact "old boys." I guess very few things stay the same forever.

Unfortunately, it will probably keep that name. Look at all the building! I don't see it getting better anytime soon.

It was Harlequin Dinner Theater. I remember going there for a play starring Earl Holliman and Angie Dickenson. It's in the same location that is now Harvest Fellowship Church.

OK, the 50's

Anybody remember all the watermellon stands that used to be all over town in the summer? Our family favorite was just a block or two from the old Josephine theater. Was named Bug's Bunnies. Had a big canvas tub with a lot of watermellons (the long thin ones), and a lot of ice so the mellons were COLD. You paid 50 cents for one and they cut it any way you asked. The over to a bunch of wooden picnic tables to eat it. There was my Dad and Mom, my four brothers, and me, and a dollar bought virtually all the mellon we could eat.

A summer night and watermellon. Never forgot that, never will.

I lived on the southside so that's where my memories are. Yes in the 50's possibly even early 60's there was such a place. On Pleasanton road around the block from my grandparents home. There was a house that set back in a deep lot. Out close to the road they they had a little covered contraption. It was a big tank full of ice and watermelons. They'd give you a sample plug and you'd pick your melon. They may have sold slices and had tables. It was there many years with a sign on it.
