I'd like to get my motorcycle license and eventually purchase something like a Honda Shadow. I don't see a whole lot of motorcycles and was wondering what's up with that? Are people just not into bikes here in SA?

Not at all, I believe the SA metro area has three Harley Davidson dealerships, not to mention local "ninja" and sport bike dealers across town.

naw, there are tons of bikes in town. with year round riding this is a bikers dream. though i dont ride much in the hottest months, the rest of the year im rolling all the time.

i would sugest that you take a motorcyle safety course. i try to take a class every 3 or 4 years. the class is a must if you wish to stay alive on a bike! even more so in this crazy san antonio traffic!

You see a lot of motorcyclists riding in the Hill Country during the weekends. If I am not mistaken, a group meets over at the Home Depot on Culebra and Loop 1604 before they take off for the wide open road. Your best bet would be to check with the dealer where you're buying the motorcycle. Personally, I'd rather ride in the dirt (use to do that many, many moons ago).

Many many bikes here. As mentioned above, though, the country around SA is so beautiful that a good amount of riding is done *out* of town, that's why you don't see as many bikes *in* town.

Well folks, in that case, I look forward to nice rides out in the country. As far as bikes are concerned, can anyone recommend a good used bike dealer, if any?

Default Used Bike Sugestion

I can't sugest a dealership but I will sugest a bike...Suzuki makes a cruiser called a Intruder LC1500 made from 98-2004....big comfortable safe bike with a low center of gravity and many options. Good luck and Ride Safe

Before you start riding, go to a Motorcycle Safety Foundation basic riding course. You provide the helmet and riding gear, they provide the bike. And if I'm not mistaken, when you pass the end-of-course riding test, that qualifies you to bypass the riding test when you get your license endorsed for motorcycles.

Take it... good chance it'll save your life. www.msf.org if memory serves... if not, just google it.
