Thanks. The only drive in I ever saw in San Antonio was the one near Judson.

That was a Johnny-come-lately drive-in. San Antonio had over 23 drive-ins from 1940-2007. The Judson was the last to be built in San Antonio. It was built in 1977 and closed in 1981 and razed by 1985. It was built by the Maurice Braha, owner of the Aztec. Braha also owned the New Laurel Theatre on San Pedro and had it razed in 1986.

I remember those, but PE was Pershing; General (GE) and Walnut (WA)...we had a WA number.

Great photos! We saw the Mission Drive-In again yesterday on our way to a fundraiser, and remarked how sad it was that it was now closed.

My comments:

1. I love the first images showing the natural decay of an old (Starlite) sign. Nice to see it disappear by nature rather than destroyed by vandals like the Mission.

2. I share the comment about the VHS tape photo. I think it is interesting to see the juxtoposition of two obsolete technologies.

3. WOW! I didn't know there were any remnants left of the old Valley-Hi Drive-in. I saw Star Wars there as a kid, and remember always saying that we were going to sneak in to see a movie after our Boy Scout meetings held in the old shack nearby. I guess that would not have been smart since we would have been wearing uniforms and we would have been fairly obvious.

Anyone here like to meet at Gruene Hall while ROMY is in town during Fiesta? We could get a table and where our name tags with our forum names. Thinking on a Friday night, 7-10pm, any takers?
