As to firearms - you need to understand both context and intent. The cited study reflects ONLY those presented to the US BATFE for tracing - NOT the total sum of guns seized by Mexico. And even THAT study is flawed.
According to the FBI you are wrong.

What's more, the majority of guns causing mayhem on Mexico's streets are made in the United States.

They originated from Los Angeles, but it was created by illegal El Salvidorians.

If we didn't have the illegals we would not have MS13.

Critical thinking skills seem hard to find on this board.

As long as there is a reason for them to come here, they will find a way to get in.
That you think it is possible to eliminate illegal immigration tells me you are the one lacking in critical thinking skills or you're drinking too much of Trump's koolaid.

We can't absolutely stop folks from killing each other, either - does that mean we stop trying?

The picture included in their story includes Russian and other foreign firearms - of a style not imported into the US. But it's The Atlantic - accuracy has never been an issue to them.

Folks talk about how Mexico isn't at fault for OUR drug problems.......and they're right. It's up to US to address the issue and deal with it. Just as it's up to THEM to deal with THEIR criminal element. Within reason, I'm all for helping Mexico track down and stop illegal gun sellers. Problem being, the prosecution for those involved has been pitifully lacking. I've seen folks lie on 4473's, get caugt - and never serve a day of jail time - and these were convicted felons. That's not the fault of gun owners, gun dealers or manufacturers - that lies squarely on the feds.

I have to correct you; they were refugees fleeing war in Central America. A war the US was involved in because they feared "communism" would take hold in that part of the world.

We are currently send back 100 El Salvadoran "refugees" per week back to their home country after they are released from jail currently.

A fresh wave of crime from the infamously violent MS-13 gang in the District of Columbia is being driven by the heavy recruitment of young illegal immigrants.

A surge of minors crossing the U.S. southern border is helping the notorious gang boost their ranks and instigate a new string of violent attacks in the city, reported The Washington Times. Over the past few years a wave of illegal migrant children crossed the U.S. border, and MS-13 appears to be targeting them for recruitment.

Just stop. Not every illegal coming across the the southern broader is coming to clean your house or pick produce. Hence why the last president and the current president is going after the criminal element.

As for prim8-

So because we will never wipe out illegal immigration all together we should not even try? That is an interesting way to look at a problem.

Let me propose this; what gives the US the right to impose it's interests on other nations with no consequence? If this is the world we are living in then it is in the best interest of the Salvadorean nation to have its citizens come here and amount the resources to make El Salvador a more livable nation.

Are we using logic or not? Every action has a consequence, the US wanted to keep its interests protected and also have a pool of cheap labor available. It's not your fault as a regular American at all; but your government has cheated you horribly.

I apologise if I offend you.

Default Drug Smuggling, and addressing the issue,

You are absolutely right Redneck, people need to stop using Cocaine, if there were no demand for the stuff what would be the use in smuggling Cocaine? The U.S. needs to address this problem, here at home.
Including Meth, Heroin or even prescription drugs nowadays. The country would be a far better
and less crime ridden place, including gun smuggling, if the scourge of hard drugs could be stopped.
This is what would help Mexico.
School kids need to be over educated on this topic - religiously.
Since this instruction on enlightening schoolkids on the pitfalls of using hard drugs is not religious in nature it is OK! and does not go against the grain of the U.S. Constitution.
Every day, once a day. Entirely before it is too late, teach, instruct, drill, while they are still very young and before so many young lives are ruined. What other way is there to go about this? Stop it? Except in the beginning? As children? Make no mistakes , Kids.
The stuff is evil, the Devil's tool.
OK, surely leave that last sentence on the Devil out of classroom lectures.

Perhaps even legalize pot? This would take the profit motive entirely out of the business of drug smuggling. If Willie says it is alright , it is alright.
Willie Nelson is living proof that Marijuana has no side effects.
The big money involved in the El Chapo type trade would evaporate.
The southern border would become the quiet place that it used to be. Ever see the movie " Sicario"?
A sequel to that movie is in the works now,- Sicario ll - " Soldado". The same actors will return to reprise their roles- minus the young female FBI agent but will keep on Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin.
