My family and I will be PCSing to Fort Sam Houston, my husband is already there and looking at houses. Most of the places to rent in San Antonio are about a 30 min drive. I saw some houses to rent on Zillow in Converse.

How is that area?

Nice folks, mostly middle class and lower middle class, blue collar. Lots of veterans live around there, too.

So much for helping other people I guess? If you don't want to help.. just simply don't respond.

I don't know that particular area, but the COL in SA is dirt cheap. I've lived in SA and Dallas, enjoyed everything about both except the intense summer heat and water rationing - both trending worse lately. My fam still lives in SA.

Converse is a decent place to live. It is growing in size as they are building houses out there. Guess it is like most cities.. depends on where you live.. there are some not so good areas over there too... but that goes with all area of town. Close to most shopping out there and the School district is Judson. Cant speak much to the school district but heard Judson High is okay place to go...

In my opinion...searching the forum will help answer the basic question of "Is Converse, Tx a nice area?" or at least help the OP come up with more specific questions to ask.

I am trying to understand what the best area could be for the OP though. It is unclear where her husband (or her) will be working which helps out a lot with recommending an area to live. Does PCSing to Fort Sam Houston mean they will be working there as well?

There's nothing wrong with helping people, but why help them, when they could help them selfs? Forums have a search function for a reason, and most forums prefer you search before you ask a question, especially ones that has been asked at least 100 times.

I did search the forum and did not find much information. I have a 11 month old that keeps me on my toes, so I don't have hours to research.

My husband is military so he will be working on Fort Sam. I will not be working. I just wanted a general input of the area. Being a military family and moving around, there are some places around the post that people will tell you to stay clear of. I was just making sure Converse, wasn't one of them.

Thank you everyone that was happy to help me, I appreciate it.

I grew up in Converse but have lived the majority of my adult life in San Antonio. My parents live in Converse still. The property crime is considerably worse now than it was before. The commute from Fort Sam to Converse just straight up sucks. I would recommend somewhere closer to Fort Sam for these reasons. There are plenty of decent places inside of Loop 410 to live.
