I'm a mother of two sons with autism and my older son (5yrs) will be starting kinder next year. We are looking to buy a home in the NEISD in San Antonio, but are looking for recommendations on the best schools for kids with high functioning autism in the district. I've checked some threads, but most don't list specific schools and/or are old threads. If you have any suggestions, please let me know! Thank you!

I have no personal experience to share with you but I strongly urge you to speak with someone at the NEISD itself about your concerns. NEISD is over all a highly rated school district.

Well, we'd like to stick to something less than $250K.

Does your friend like the school? It's in the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City school district, which is a little more north than we would ideally like to be, but if the school district is good, we would consider it.

For 250k for great schools with kids and autism I would recommend looking at NISD as well. I think there are a few threads discussing autism services in NISD as well. This of course depends on where work will be too and your tolerance for traffic. But of course I do know some families deal with a horrid commute for good schools (actually my family did with dad working in San Marcos and living 10/De Zavala...so..).

Oh, wow! That's a pretty far commute.

We considered NISD, but since my younger son will be going to the Foundation school for Autism (Thousand Oaks), it would probably be best to stay close to his school as well.

Does anyone know about the special needs programs at Longs Creek, Redland Oaks, Northern Hills, or Bulverde Creek elementaries?

Does the Foundation school still only go up to 2nd grade?

My DS has moderately functioning autism and we decided to not enroll him in the Foundation school. I have heard the school is good but I worried about DS's transition to public school once he was done with 2nd grade. I also worried that DS would not be around enough typically developing peers at the Foundation school.
