The same Castro who won races for mayor with 66% of the vote in 2013, and a whopping 81% of the vote in 2011. I'm no fan of Julian, but to argue that an endorsement from him is toxic in SA is just plain wrong.

Those percentages weren't surprising, though, considering none of Castro's opponents in those two races were formidable candidates.


Castro lost his first bid for mayor to Phil Hardberger. He didn't re-enter the race until Hardberger was term-limited, and ran for the open seat in 2009. He did have a formidable candidate that year, Trish DeBerry-Mejia. Castro won that race with 56.23% of the vote.

Well he is currently polling at less than 1%. His voters here thought he would be president and that’s not gonna happen. Maybe he can come home and run for a state seat in a reliable blue district.
