Hey, did anyone else notice that article said that our property tax ranks 24 out of 50 of the states??? And I always thought we were on the HIGH end because of no State Income Tax...but according to this we are middle of the road!!!

Those reports are bought and paid for by real estate associations and other interested parties. Somebody got a nice kickback for churning up those completely false stats. Maybe if they discounted everyone who has purchased in the last seven years... Moderator cut: off topic

What area of town? It says northwest side. Close to the rim? I live on Babcock and Hamilton Wolfe now.

Sounds like the new student apartments on Babcock and Hausman. They each get a bedroom and share the living room/kitchen.

Regardless, there's a lot of lower income housing on the south and east sides that are pulling those numbers down, but most cities have heavily populated areas with lower income housing that pull that number down. We're still really affordable compared to the rest of the country. Most board members seem to be from the North Side, which does have higher priced housing, but there's a lot of lower priced housing on the other sides of town. That stat really doesn't mean anything though. It's a good comparison of cities, but average prices really don't mean anything. It's too broad a spectrum to really mean anything.

That's a reasonable point. However I wonder how SA compares to other cities in the higher end market. I know we have higher end properties, but from what I've seen in other cities, there's more at the high end than we have here. The result being the low end drags the avg down in SA, while in other cities it's balanced out by the higher end.

That's why a median makes much more sense.

We bought in the lower end (when it was still lower end, it's not anymore), and looked a lot on the south side, so we're familiar with the lower end market. Which also means I know these neighborhoods well enough, plenty are perfectly charming to live in, but many people would not choose to, esp. if moving here from another city. The result being a warped perspective on housing costs.

You are close, but no it isn't The Reserve (newer apartments on Babcock)! It is student housing so yes all utilities are included.

What is the difference (in cost) between say a house in far NW San Antonio as to a house (of the same size and physical condition) in a lesser known Southside neighborhood.
