REALLY??!?!? I use to love their wings, but not enough to drive up to the Medical Center area for them...will hopefully still be as great as they use to be. The BEST Hooters wings EVER are at the one in St Thomas, BVI.

From what I've heard from several sources, the franchiser was laundering money. It's a shame cause from what I remember, they were always pretty busy. I think there was what, three of them? And I think more were planned.

Someone at work said Johnny Carino's at Bandera/1604 has closed. Anyone know anything? Are there any other Carino's in San Antonio or elsewhere?

I think someone else here posted that Carino's in fact closed. AFAIK there are no others here in San Antonio.

When we lived in Dallas, the one near our house was closed and that was over 3 years ago. I had heard at one time that the couple who owned Johnny Carino's split up and one kept the Johnny Carino's name and the other went to just Carino's. Not sure about the truthfulness of that --just telling you what I heard. I loved their bread and oil with the garlic crispies in it. I think that's where I had that anyway. We had a small work get together (maybe 15 or so) at the Bandera location several years back and our service was terrible--we just couldn't get a drink of any kind brought to the table. But when our family went, it was OK. I just hate to see any business close down, whether anyone else hates it or not--it provided jobs for human beings.

Thanks rynetwo. If they just closed the Bandera location, that seems odd. That location was always busy the few times I went.

Last week Circle K revealed plans to saunter back into the local convenience store market. Other chains are growing here, too.
Here are two of five recent retail openings gathered from building permits granted by the city of San Antonio and architectural records filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation:
  • Hooters plans to build a fifth restaurant in the San Antonio area, on the West Side at 10402 Ingram Road, close to Westover Marketplace. Construction is expected to cost $1.25 million and last between April and July. The chain has restaurants downtown, on the Northwest Side, the North Side and in Selma.
  • Yet another restaurant is on its way for the West Side: Whataburger is building a new location at the intersection of Loop 1604 and Marbach Road, with $450,000 of construction work lasting between April and July. Local-based Whataburger has more than 50 restaurants in the city, according to its website.
