I am happy to hear a new "Firehouse Sub" shop going in on 1604 near Potranco. Should be open in March 2016.

I really like Firehouse steaming their subs better than the other, "dry" kind.

Lin's International Buffet located at 7863 IH 35 South is now open. Living relatively close to this venue, I had been watching for activity and saw the parking lot packed this afternoon. At home, I saw on FB a sponsored ad proclaiming that today was opening day. So I had to try it out.

The remodel from the former Furr's was done quite well. The seating and environment with an open floor plan has real potential with some modification.

The center of the bar was a very well stocked sushi affair with several attendants to keep the offerings fresh and available. Although I am not a sushi fan, my guest who frequents sushi bars on the NW side and med center area was very impressed with what he ordered... known for being finicky, those words said a lot.

The outer rings of the bar served your usual gamut of Chinese offerings, there was a pizza bar and a steak grill which offers sirloins cooked to your request. The salad bar and desert bar were typical of what you would expect.

One issue I had with my entire visit were the occasional screaming kid. The open floor plan meant that brats clear across the restaurant could be heard. A strategically placed wall or partition can help alleviate this, along with properly seated clientele. As a continuation of this, the ice cream self serve (not soft-serve) was twice surrounded by unattended children under the age of 8 who were 'playing' with the ice cream. Major turn off. If this is how they are going to offer the desert, a full-time attendant should be assigned here to avoid the zoo-like atmosphere this created.

The servers, cleaners and attendants were prompt and our waitress was very attentive. Her gratuity reflected it generously.

In all, I had more than my fair share of sirloin, sweet and sour pork, combo fried rice, chicken teriaki, noodles, salad and tea. I definitely got my $14.00 worth.

I told an assistant manager of my observations and she thanked me for bringing the issue to her attention.

I will be back.

My kids rave about that place, so I tried it and wasn't impressed. I could have been at Chevy's or Don Pablo's. It is like every other chain Mexican food place and that is the last thing this town needs.

Thanks! Never felt the need to try them, so not all that upset since it seems I have not missed out on anything.

I was MUCH more excited to see the Fire House Subs open over there! Been only once, but LOVE the steamed subs!
