OK this is my first attempt at taking out a loan but before I do does anybody have any advice or tips before I apply for one.Also,is there loan companies that are better than others?This is all new to me.Thanks in advance.

If you bank at a Credit Union, ask about a Line of Credit - it's usually a LOT cheaper than any small loan you'll find elsewhere. You can often apply online, in fact.
