On my way home today I noticed people are lined up at gas stations around the city. Some of these lines extend out on major roads.

Some of the lesser known gas stations are not as packed. Are gas prices expected to jump that much soon?

it started last night when northern Texas got reports of running out of gas.
then it started being noticed today in San Antonio. social media has now created a panic.

will we be short on gas due to refineries closing from Harvey? perhaps. maybe just more limited choices.
but when everyone panics like they are right now, yes we'll keep running out of gas.

but if you are on "E" you'd better stop reading these articles and go hunting.
better off going to lesser known stations than the ones on the major intersections.

I'm not on E and am good for another 4 or 5 days probably with my driving style. People are packing into gas stations like gas will stop being produced forever or something.

Is social media really causing this much fuss over this?

yes. word already got around my office that the gas stations around the corner are out of gas, so everyone is slowly trickling out real quick to go get gas.

sure the same is happening at offices all around the city. plus everyone has to call their significant other and tell them to do the same.

Create any kind of panic and people will buy up all of whatever is projected to be a shortage of. Bread, Water, Gas...etc.

Shortages wouldn't really be a problem if everyone would be rational and not greedy.

Especially when everyone and their mother is saying "there is no shortage!"

And they'll be slowly waiting in lines. I drove from Randolph to Seguin, and every place that had gas was lined up. Several places were out. I expect there won't be any to be had anywhere tomorrow morning unless they get the trucks rolling.

What I am concerned about is price gouging. I saw a difference of at least $.20 on name brand gas stations very close to each other and supposedly, this is just the start of it.

Please remember:

Cause a business taking advantage of people is no different then looters looting the vulnerable after a crises.

Maybe, but there are only very few gas stations that still have gas.
Check here:
